Brenner calls for federal, fair & impartial mediator and outside counsel meeting

Barbara Brenner shared this email exchange, initiated by Brian Martin,  in which she again emphasizes the sort of mediator she thinks is needed and that the Council needs to meet with outside counsel (i.e., PLICs lawyers) before the mediator is selected.

This is another good time for individuals and groups to call or email all our County Councilors and encourage their solid support of a federal, knowledgeable, impartial and quality mediator, and to push for the Council to meet with PLIC’s lawyers before the mediator is selected. I recommend contacting them before Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday (12:30 PM, Council Chambers that Sam mentions in the last sentence of his email sent on Friday, October 8, 2010.

Does anyone know who in the County is ultimately responsible for ‘selecting’ the mediator? Is it the whole County Council, by an open vote? the current County negotiating team? the County executive? If anyone finds out, please share it here on the ferry forum, as well as with Paul Davis/Brown Betty and PLIC.

I have made my opinion very clear that I not only think it needs to be a federal mediator, it needs to be someone who is known to be very fair and impartial. So far I haven’t heard anything and am concerned that we obtain that information and the outside legal information before this progresses at all. We are waiting to hear from our attorney who is setting up the meeting with the outside legal people.

Dear Barbara- Have you had any success in getting the two parties to agree that the mediator needs to be a Federal Mediator and someone knowledgeable of the Law in this case?
