About Us

Wynne Lee and Colleen McCrory started this site in January 2010.  Colleen retired from her editorship in October 2011, since the Gooseberry Pt lease had been signed and she was ready to move on to other things,

The goal is to provide Lummi Islanders and others interested in the Whatcom County Ferry with an easy-to-access online site to find information, opinions, rumors and resources about our community’s challenges related to the Lummi Island ferry, our essential transportation link to the mainland. Click here to learn more about how to use this site.

Editorial policy:  This will remain a site for civil and respectful public discourse and information-sharing. Ferry-related content of comments, stories or information is not restricted (unless it’s known to be factually false).  However, the Forum Rules will always apply.

  1. You two are providing a good service to the community. Thanks for all the work that had to go into it’s preparation. And thank you for researching and finding the Document regarding the dock.

  2. Thanks a lot for doing this. It really helps to be able to find everything in one place. Good job!!!!!

  3. This is my first visit to the site – thanks to Karly Tucker for telling me about it. Thank you Colleen and Wynne for putting it together and for continuing to “administer” it. It’s a big job – but vital. It is so important for Lummi Islanders to have a reliable mode of communicating with each other. And Jerry, I am following your lead and letting my email contacts on Lummi know about the site. I hope others will too.

  4. Thanks to Lis for letting me know about this site. She’s right, this is a vital communication method, especially if people know about it! I’ll get the word out, too. Thanks Wynne and Colleen for getting this going!

  5. After reading the Herald article today (1/9) I am determined to keep a positive outlook about this increasingly diofficult situation between the Lummi Nation and Whatcom Co. Seems we will have an answer soon — Feb 14th – the irony being that’s Valentine’s Day! The new organization Protect Lummi Island Community (PLIC) and we may add Survival to that title! is busy getting information about our rights and how we should proceed. I’m optimistic that the results will be somehow an upgrade for us – even if we don’t continue to go to Gooseberry Point. Our future is yet to be planned.

  6. I didn’t make it to the meeting last night, 1/13. Will there be a report posted somewhere?

    • I asked PLIC (Protect Lummi Island Community) for meeting minutes this morning. They are putting them together and I should have them tomorrow.

      • Just got back from vacation and was looking for the meeting PLIC minutes John asked about, but I couldn’t find anything.

I’d love to see minutes from the earlier meetings. too. At the 2 meetings I attended, everyone agreed that it was crucial to be ‘open and transparent’ about what happens at the meetings, to keep islanders as informed as possible, to avoid confusion, and to try to avoid becoming — ick, ick — the heart of a brand-new ‘island conspiracy’.

Unless something has changed in the past 2 weeks, posting PLIC minutes here would go a long way to meeting the spirit of those agreements. I’ll contact Nancy Gale, who was madly typing away during the meeting I attended at the end of December.
