It appears that airlines aren’t the only transit system that are, for safety, re-calculating (lowering) passenger capacity because of Americans’ recent weight increase. Ferries are beginning to do the same. Hopefully, this won’t apply to the Whatcom Chief, which I presume rarely hits its 100 passenger limit anyway.

I see no problem here – just weigh each walk-on passenger and charge a fare based upon weight. 2 1/2 cents a pound ought to do it. This plus a public record of each person’s weight will get the ferry load problem under control. Ought to be great for the Jazzersize classes.
